Corruption? What's That?

The MHA has stated that Commissioner of the Singapore Civil Defence Force, Peter Lim Sin Pang, and Director of the Central Narcotics Bureau, Ng Boon Gay, have been relieved of their positions and were being probed by the CPIB over “allegations of serious personal misconduct” though a Chinese daily has reported it as a case of "money and women" or "greed and sex".

Just what is corruption in Singapore?

  • Is it succumbing to an uncontrollable greedy itch caused by the perceived lack of remuneration that one must scratch to line the pockets with more illicit money?
  • Is it surrendering to an uncontrollable libido caused by excess of power that needs to be satisfied by unlawful sex?
  • Is it accepting 'special' discount given to one and his familee members by luxury condo seller? [Link]
  • Is it accepting an additional egg given by char kway teow hawker because one is a poleetician of regal position? Or
  • Is it merely a case of "personal misconduct"?
It can be one, none, some or all of the above. As mentioned by DPM Teo Chee Hean in the ministerial salary debate, it may just be a "judgement call". But who makes the call? When to make the call and when to announce the call?

If the Commissioner of the Singapore Civil Defence Force and Director of the Central Narcotics Bureau lost their lucrative jobs because of mere "allegations", they deserve my sympathies. Not unlike the sympathies I have for the "Marxists Conspirators" like Vincent Cheng and Teo So Lung and other political detainees like Chia Thye Poh, Lim Hock Siew, Said Zahari and others for being "not agreeable" and victims of ISA. However, if Peter Lim Sin Pang and Ng Boon Gay are investigated and found to be guilty by a court of law to be guilty of "alleged personal misconduct" (whatever that is), then both Peter Lim Sin Pang and Ng Boon Gay deserve their just deserts!

In view of the recent Parliamentary debate of the Ministerial Salary Review, I am less than hopeful of knowing the reasons why the Commissioner of the Singapore Civil Defence Force and Director of the Central Narcotics Bureau were relieved of their positions. In replying to why the exact figures of ministers salary should not be revealed, the DPM & Minister of Home Affairs said that he is all for transparency but he could not be too transparent as he has to respect the privacy of individuals. In other words, transparency sounds good but privacy of ministers must be protected at all cost because of the cost!

With that, what will come out of the investigation is anybody's guess. The respect for ex-Commissioner of the Singapore Civil Defence Force and Director of the Central Narcotics Bureau's privacy may override the transparency that we hope to see.

Till then, we can only guess the color of white. I doubt it can be any 'whiter' or 'shadier' than the absence and delay of this "Breaking News"! Why this "Breaking News" did not break during or before the Ministerial Salary Debate is telling!

if this 'breaking news' was released before or during the Parliamentary debate on ministers' salaries, how then could they justify their arguement that high salaries must be paid to deter corruption in the civil service?

Can getting bus loads of supporters from one constituency to another to create false impression of support for
members of local constituency be constituted as misconduct?
OR
are they to be accepted as normal?

Straits Times writes obituary about Kodak (PAP) in page A19, 26 Jan 2012 in the editorial entitled "Kodak: Fade-out, then history".

Just substitute;
"Kodak" with "PAP" and
"management" with "Singaporeans"

Whiter than white papies have a uniquely S'pore system for the civil service .Once u are a scholar, yr life career is charted - u must be promoted up all the way. Your skills etc are all rated A*** & nothing that u do can ever be wrong.U don't need work experience in anything cos u're so clever u will know everything. So every year u will climb up the wonderful salary scale & enjoy all the fantastic bonuses. This is paradise on earth only for pap ministers n top civil servants

Pinky Loong n his greedy buddies should take note of what Obama has just said .Obama said that the wealthy should pay for their fair share in taxes. He argued that anyone who makes more than US$1m a year should pay a minimum tax rate of at least 30%.Compare this with what pinky does- he reduce tax for the rich(including abolishing estate duty !); impose all kinds of taxes on the poor to make life so difficult for the lowest income group.Where is yr conscience pinky? U reward yr ministers n top civil servant so much n yet it is not enough for them !

Well, all this is now being revealed because they can no longer have complete control of the media. I believe this is but the tip of the ice-berg. What's at the bottom, which I believe dates back perhaps 2 or 3 decades will shock the world. Many say the gold mine where many made millions was the HDB project and everything linked to it. Teh Chin Wan was but a sacficial lamb to take the spot light away from others.

These two guys were at the top of the pyramid. If the top of the pyramid is dirty, what is the likelihood that the rest of the pyramid below is clean?

The next question in my mind is what causes these two guys to be exposed? Being in such position of power, it is not difficult to put a lid or to cause a lid to be put on the less savoury stuff. Many may congratulate the CPIB for being on the ball, but I have my doubts. In my books, the CPIB is not truly independent.

Satirical Headlines for tomorrow:

"Gerard Ee and Mercer will study possibility of including extra-curricular sex into the total compensation package for high flying public servants"

In order to keep Singapore corruption-free in the future, a high salary may not be enough.

With society getting more money-face, you're going to see lots and lots of these happening in the future.

The signs have already been there, starting from NKF scandal, then the monk scandal (Ren Ci Hospital). People whom we should put our trust on are breaching society's trust.

This is like a fruit that started to rot inside and now the rot is starting to surface. This is what is happening to our society.

Our Society Is Getting Very Ill!

Let's ask the Ministers;

How much OB sex you want?
3 pokes a day?
3 pokes a week? or
3 pokes a month?

Do we need to include OB sex AND high pay to keep you corruption-free?

Do we also benchmark you against the top 1,000 farkers in Singapore?
